    Dalcroze Eurhythmics has been used as a training approach for dancers, actors, and musicians since 1900. The approach manipulates time, space, and energy to keep the artist present. Lately, Eurhythmics is being used as a therapeutic tool. This participatory session will provide examples of movement therapy, plus research trends in this field.

    This session will introduce attendees to the Dalcroze approach and its application to the choral art by providing practical tools for enhancing rehearsals and performances. The implementation of Dalcroze Eurhythmics activities specifically supports rhythmic integrity and expressive singing. The presenters will demonstrate exercises appropriate for warm-ups, sight-reading, and applications to choral repertoire for diverse types, age ranges, and ability levels.

    This session will provide meaningful activities for students in instrumental ensembles.  Specifically, attendees will experience movement activities focused on rhythmic elements, including durations, patterns, and a variety of meters.  Articulation activities to help students kinesthetically understand legato, staccato, and marcato will be included.  The concepts of anacrusis, crusis, and metacrusis will also be addressed in this session.

    This participatory workshop will present the principles of the Dalcroze approach, which include the study of eurhythmics, solfège, and piano improvisation. This workshop will provide meaningful ways to include. movement rooted in this approach to meet state standards; specifically standards 1, 5, 6, & 10 as the workshop will include movement activities that involve the singing of folks songs and scale exercises, reading rhythmic notation, listening to and analyzing music to discover expressive qualities, and creating movement in groups.
