GCES: Dalcroze Eurhythmics: Movement that Inspires & Informs

This workshop will present purposeful music activities for music teachers of all types and for all ages general music, choral and instrumental ensembles, and private studio. Specifically, the focus will be on rhythmic integrity, expressivity, and creative movement. Applying movement techniques will enhance and reinforce musical concepts in meaningful, enjoyable, and efficient ways. This workshop is for teachers/music majors who are new to studying the Dalcroze approach as well as those who are experienced Dalcrozians.

    Dr. Marla Butke
    Otterbein University - Retired

    Marla Butke, Ph.D., recently retired from Otterbein University where she directed the Women’s Chorale and taught General Music and Choral Methods, holds degrees from Miami University, Wright State University and The Ohio State University. She is a Master Teaching Artist with the American Eurhythmics Society and serves as the President of the Board of AES. Dr. Butke regularly presents Dalcroze Eurhythmics workshops throughout the United States and internationally, including presentations in Spain, China, and England, and for the American Choral Directors Association National and Central/North Central Regional Conferences, as well as other national and state music education conferences. Dr. Butke and co-author, Dr. David Frego, have written two books, Meaningful Movement: A Music Teacher’s Guide to Dalcroze Eurhythmics, published by Music is Elementary and Dalcroze Eurhythmics in the Choral Classroom published by the Hal Leonard Corporation.

    Clinton Pratt

    Clinton Pratt has a BM and MM in piano performance and has been teaching piano for over 20 years. He is the current President of the Ohio Music Teachers Association Southwest District, and owns a multi-teacher piano studio in Cincinnati Ohio where he loves incorporating Eurhythmics in both private and group lessons. He has been attending Eurhythmics teacher training sessions since 2007 and recently earned his certification!
